Special Edition Published: UIA Architectural Education Commission (EDUCOM) - ABC2, Vol 2026 - 05

2026-07-26

We are pleased to announce the release of a special edition of ABC2: Journal of Architecture, Building, Construction, and Cities, developed in close collaboration with the UIA Architectural Education Commission (EDUCOM). This edition brings together a substantial body of work reflecting the Commission's ongoing efforts to document, evaluate, and advance architectural education on a global scale.

The edition opens with a detailed account by Ashraf M. Salama and Selma Harrington of the Commission's activities in delivering on its mandate, setting the context for the reports that follow. This is complemented by a comprehensive global survey, authored by Salama, Harrington, and Madhavi P. Patil, which maps trends and patterns across schools of architecture in 2025, offering a wide-ranging snapshot of the discipline internationally. A related pilot survey, examining architectural education systems as they stood in 2024, provides an earlier benchmark against which these global patterns can be understood.

The edition further includes a three-edition synthesis of the UIA Award for Innovation in Architectural Education, tracing how the award has evolved and the kinds of innovation it has recognized over time. Rounding out the collection is a summary of the international webinar series held between 2024 and 2026, which brought together educators, practitioners, and institutions from around the world to exchange perspectives on the future of the field.

The contributions of this special edition of ABC2 (Volume 2025 - No 5) offer a rich, evidence-based resource for educators, institutions, and policymakers engaged in shaping architectural education worldwide.
