Research Ethics and Integrity
Publishing ethics and research integrity are fundamental to ensuring the quality of research we publish, maintaining public trust in research findings, and giving proper credit to authors for their work. At ABC2: Journal of Architecture, Building, Construction, and Cities, we are committed to upholding these principles, as scholarly and scientific research is essential to advancing human progress through knowledge production, reproduction, and dissemination. Protecting the integrity of the work we publish is central to our cause, given the direct impact of academic publications on global challenges and innovation.
We take publishing ethics seriously and are proactive in identifying and addressing unethical behaviour. As part of our commitment, ABC2 aligns with leading ethical standards, including the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Complying with these rigorous principles, we aim to foster trust, uphold academic integrity, and support the global research community.
ABC2 research ethics and integrity policy is predicated on the following considerations:
- Ethical aspects when conducting research, particularly with animals or human participants. This includes obtaining ethical approval from relevant committees or councils, ensuring informed consent from research participants.
- Accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data, as well as its security and compliance with regulations including GDPR. This includes issues such as image manipulation or disputes over data ownership which arise from data mismanagement.
- Conducting research to the highest professional and ethical standards to ensure trustworthy results.
- Authors are accountable for the originality, validity, and integrity of the content of their submissions. If AI tools are used in writing, this must be done responsibly and in accordance with AI policies of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
- Authors should be aware that their manuscript may be subjected to scrutiny to determine the originally of the text in their manuscript.
